MICROWAVE CHESTNUTS

The Christmas Season is upon us and a big part of the holidays to me are all of the foods that are not only made, but are only available during this time of the year. One of these foods is Chestnuts.

How many of you have heard the song "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire," and said to yourself "that sounds great but I've never had them." Or better yet, "I don't have an open fire." Well I'm here to tell you that Chestnuts are one of life's little treats; they're easy to prepare and taste great. Trust me on this. All you need are some nice fresh Chestnuts and a microwave.

Here's how you do it:

INGREDIENTS: 1 or 2 pounds of Fresh Chestnuts

PREPARATION:

  • Cut large X into flat side of each Chestnut with a sharp knife
  • Arrange the cut Chestnuts in a microwave pan
  • Microwave on high (100%) for 2.5 - 3 minutes

While the Chestnuts are still warm peel the shells and enjoy with your favorite holiday beverage or in a variety of different dishes.

Microwaved Chestnuts are tasty and healthy. They don't taste smokey like those made over the open fire, but they have a mild taste and smooth texture that is absolutely delicious. I hope you enjoy them, let me know how yours turned out.

Till next from Pop's kitchen, "Eat healthy, it tastes great and it's great for you."
